An Open Studio event featuring Artists and Designers living and working in Dundee

Fresh in the wake of Dundee’s city of Culture bid send off, the city offers a chance for the public to meet over 40 of the city’s artists and makers all under one roof. WASPS Meadow Mill opens its doors to showcase a wide variety of creativity including: drawing, painting, illustration, jewellery, fashion, printmaking, ceramics, photography, textiles, paper-making, installation and sculpture.

The recently refurbished Wasps Meadowmill Studios hosts its annual Open Studios event this October. WASPS is home to a thriving community of Artists living and working in the city of Dundee, from new graduates fresh form Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art to well know and established award-winning creatives.

This year promises to be spectacular with the WASPers pulling together to create the biggest Open Studios to date; see highlights including a curated exhibition on the 4th floor featuring tenant work, HIVE a childrens treasure trail activity to find specially made artworks by tenants; Jennifer Robson’s life-size wire horse nicknamed ‘Spartacus’ by a facebook fan will be on show from my recent show ‘The Girl who had a Tail’ – floor 3; Meet this years new graduates including the new Vanilla Inkers, a sneak peak of Artist turned fashion designer Jill Skulina’s wearable art – men’s revamped jackets, each one unique in flavour; Young Artist Pastel society award winner Lara Scouller will be opening her studio; designer Sooz Gordon’s home-wares inspired by Dundee; Nicola Morrison, Cally Brooker, recently featured in the Herald after being selected to take part in the Craft Scotland Summer Show and much much more.

This year we also have a programme of free events, a cafe and a shop. The shop, curated by Lovely things, will feature tenant work and will be located on the 3rd floor in studio 316. There will be a group show of tenants work in the cafe area and Project 2 on the 4th floor. Special invited guests include a Pecha Kucha retrospective from Creative Dundee; TRIGGER presents Connectivity 2013 with Artworks Scotland/the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. a selection of published local writers (Richard Watt, Zoe Venditozzi, Dawn Wood) delivering workshops and free performances; Mrs Battenbergs Traveling tearoom providing refreshments, both days.
